Why should you sell on Shetland Market
Clearly any business wants to know "what's in it for them". Well, we've written our "About our Site" page with a mission for the project. Here's a few details below on why Shetland Market will work for you;
- Shetland Market is set up for local businesses. It aims to break even over its first 3 years! We hope it to eventually make a small profit, and will probably then use this template for other similar projects in markets outside Shetland.
- We will market the site, posting adverts in tourist brochures, newspapers and magazines as well as online. We hope to use grant money for this as much as possible, sourced not just from SIC either, so that our revenue from commission goes further.
- We will also provide leaflets, business cards and other printed material free of charge to registered businesses.
- For the first 2 years (until May 2012) all revenue from the site will be spent entirely on further marketing. All maintenance and our time is at no cost to the project.
- Eventually we hope to be able to sponsor local events, such as craft fairs and showcases, helping Shetland's economy to grow.
- Once the site is more established and receiving a good flow of visits, we plan to attract businesses to advertise on the site, generating further revenue for marketing. If possible, we will reduce the commission rate at this time to 10%, or use a sliding scale based on monthly order totals to lower your costs.
